Trier
Once the capital of the Holy Roman Empire, this town is home to a Roman Basilica that survived WWII bombing, an archway that marked legal boundaries and thieves crossed to avoid punishment, a good luck pillar, Karl Marx's home (and high end fashion boutique), Porta Nigra, and the Church of Our Lady. A quick trip down the autobahn took us to Burg Eltz castle and uber quaint Beilstein for ice wine.
